The presence of social media has had a significant impact on the way news is gathered and reported;
there is now sources than ever to get the latest gossip or breaking news story, this is good for news agency's that can then sell on this information, but not generally good for people news might be about. For example, Piers Morgan
may Tweet about something that has recently happened in his life, that post will then be scrutinized for any valuable information; some times the information sold on is then over the top and exaggerated to make it fit into news values and make it a good story, over time the information becomes even more twisted and distorted by other news agency's until the actual story is nothing to do with Piers Morgan's original tweet.
