1. Stereotypes can be created by people, teachers, friends and the media.
2. Natural human instinct is to generalize things around us, this is how we understand the world of complex information that our world is full of. Stereotypes are a generalization of people - we can't live without stereotypes; they are a large part of our intelligence as a species. Stereotypes are sometimes harmful because we are averaging a limited amount of information about a whole culture or religion, this is made worse by data that is false.
3. Lots of stereotypes are surprisingly accurate, like how we like to drink lots of tea.
4. I believe we create stereotypes and the media reinforces them by making them normal and influencing other peoples ideologies.
Donald Trump is a good example of this, we all have very strong opinions of Donald Trump. Why? In reality, our opinion of him is a stereotype carried by the media from America. We all hate the man that has no consequence to our daily lives. Americans have a strong opinion on him because he is the president of their country. The opinion is that influential that it has become a stereotype reinforced by the media, therefore we hate him because we are all interconnected socially.
5. Reception theory and Effect theory
Reception theory - People making their own stereotypes from poorly interpreted media texts.
Effect theory - People passively absorbing the stereotypes and ideologies of the media texts.
